MUSIKFESTIVAL

FREDAG 17:E NOVEMBER

19:30 YOUMNA SABA

Youmna Saba (Beirut 1984) is a musician, composer and musicologist. Her current research focuses on instrument and space resonances in different sonic and musical contexts. With four albums to this date, she has collaborated with musicians of different musical expressions such as Kamilya Jubran, Floy Krouchi, Mike Cooper and the Neue Vocalsolisten ensemble, and has taken part in numerous artist residencies. She is the laureate of the first sound residency at Quai Branly Museum, Paris (2022-2023) with her research project and installation “La Réserve des Non-Dits”, now on view at the museum; and a laureate of the music residency program at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2020-2021).

20:30 ROBERT EK

Robert Ek has, as a clarinetist, specialised in contemporary music as a chamber musician and soloist. With great curiosity and dedication, he works together with composers to develop the repertoire for his instrument. He has recorded around 20 records and premiered a large number of works as soloist and chamber musician.

22:00 KIM MYHR – SYMPATHETIC MAGIC

Sympathetic Magic is the follow-up to Kim Myhr’s 2017 album You | me, which was widely praised and received an honorary mention at the 2018 Nordic Music Prize. While the immersive warmth of You | me is still present, Sympathetic Magic is more expansive than its predecessor. A band of eight musicians playing a wide variety of instruments including electric 12-string guitars, drum machines, vocals, synthesizers, organs and lots of drums and percussion, has created a work of a grander scale.

LÖRDAG 18:e NOVEMBER

19:30 KRIS KULDKEPP

Kris Kuldkepp is an experimental musician and performance artist based in Hamburg, Germany. She explores the rich traditions of the double bass to discover sonic experiences featuring rich harmonic textures, noise music as well as elements from pop and doom ambient. In addition to the double bass, she uses found objects, motors, and DIY electronics to create musical experiences that deconstruct meanings and forms of musical structures.

20:45 CASSÉ

Cassé is an Italian-Swiss duo between Caroline Profanter and Selene Mauvis, who started their collaboration in a basement home studio in Brussels, in 2019. They play with used, found and often semi-broken instruments, aiming for writing a „Greatest Hit“ at each rehearsal. Their rhythms and melodies are as simple as effective, their polyglot, Dadaist lyrics are sung, chanted or rapped, sometimes in an hypnotic style. The approach is DIY, low-fi, to use what is at hand, looking for a variety of acoustically played objects and instruments, and a minimum of electronics (yamaha keyboard, megaphones).

22:00 MARIA W HORN & MATS ERLANDSSON

Maria W Horn and Mats Erlandsson are two of the key figures in the reemerging scene of drone music in Stockholm. For their performance at Sound of Stockholm, the composers will perform works from their recent release as a duo, Celestial Shores (2023, B.A.A.D.M.). The work was originally composed as a score for the second half of Andy Warhol’s movie Nico/Nico Crying (1966), featuring modular synthesizer, zither, voice, contaminated field recordings and percussion, and emphasizes both composers signature methods of working with both sustained sound, synthesis, harmonic progressions and field recordings.
