Facts on Finnish disco
The Finns have disco in the blood, it’s common knowledge. Finnish Disco is a music and dance style that developed in Finland in the 1970s, by the combination of the humppa rhythm beat with the passionate lyrics of tango. This created a new musical style, where everybody got the opportunity to express themselves on the dance floor.
Later, the phenomenon was exported to Stockholm and further through the Finland ferries. Finnish disco is danced in various styles: the feet may for example land next to each other or glide by in the end of figures with staccato steps, but the most importand factor is to never loose the feeling – disco fillinki.
The festival is created in collaboration with UusiTeatteri with the support of Teater Info Finland – TINFO and the Culture Fund for Sweden and Finland.
