I’m just a symptom of a moral decay

The year is 2089, and most of the world has been burnt to a crisp. Survivors embrace servitude for subsistence. In one household, Loosey (Marie Karlberg) has a compulsive need for sex – a new social norm. She keeps two servants: GiGi (Jaana-Kristiina Alakoski), loyal to the bitter end, and Poor Boi (Sigrid Windolf), an apathetic and rebellious alcoholic who can’t stop singing a song that came out in 1975.

Marie Karlberg (b. 1985) is a Stockholm-based artist whose practice moves between film, performance and installation. Through playful but precise stagings, she examines everyday gestures, relationships and social structures. Notable films by Karlberg include The Gallery Worker (2019) and The Good Terrorist (2021). She returned to Stockholm in 2023 after over a decade in New York City, where she runs the celebrated gallery Beau Travail. Karlberg has held solo shows at Tramps, New York; Bonny Poon, Paris; Plymouth Rock, Zurich; Tramps, London and Reena Spaulings Fine Arts, New York. She has staged performances at Elevation1049, Gstaad; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Künstlerhaus Halle für Kunst & Medien, Graz and Artists Space, New York. Marie has participated in group shows and ensemble performances at various galleries and institutions such as The Goethe Institute, New York; Whitney Museum of Art, New York; MoMA, New York; The 9th Berlin Biennale, Berlin and Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin. Her work is included in public collections such as The Schaulager Foundation, Münchenstein; Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris and Moderna Museet, Stockholm.
