One of the world’s most influential directors – Argentine artist Lola Arias – opens our new format Konträr Invitation, where the invited guest is free to decide what happens for one evening. Arias presents her latest film REAS – created together with former female inmates – followed by a conversation with Freja Hallberg, one of the artistic directors of KONTRÄR.

Yoseli has a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower on her back and has always dreamed of traveling to Europe – but was arrested at the airport for drug trafficking. Nacho is a trans man who was convicted of fraud and started a rock band in prison. Gentle or tough, blonde or shaved, cis or trans, long-term inmates or newly admitted: in this hybrid musical, recently released prisoners re-enact their own lives inside a Buenos Aires prison.
REAS is a collective work that reinvents the musical genre. Here, former inmates transform their memories into music and choreography – they tell their stories through song and dance, relive their experiences as fiction, and invent, with imagination and humor, possible futures for themselves. The result is a documentary-musical that portrays both the everyday life and the dreams inside a women’s prison, without reproducing the stigma.
