Philanthropic Performance 2025: FIGHT

POTATOPOTATO

Why are we staging a philanthropic performance of FIGHT?

Konträr opened with full force in November 2022 and is now an established venue for innovative national and international performing arts!

However, with 88 seats in the auditorium and ticket revenues that at best cover half of our artists’ fees, combined with inflation, high rents, and low levels of public support, it is clear that today’s system is not built for small theaters to survive, let alone thrive. That is why we are now doing something radical: we invite you to a philanthropic performance of FIGHT – where each ticket costs 78,000 kronor.

What does it mean to be a philanthropist?

A philanthropist invests in ideas, projects, and endeavors that they believe make a difference in the world. By purchasing a philanthropic ticket to FIGHT, you become part of a movement that aims to change the playing field for independent performing arts in Sweden. You are contributing not just to a single performance, but to creating a long-term opportunity for Konträr to continue being a space for innovative national and international performing arts, ultimately impacting the field at large.

Why 78,000 kronor?

It may seem like an astronomical amount for a theater ticket, but it is exactly what we need to secure our operations going forward. If we fill the auditorium just once with philanthropists willing to pay that price, we can cover costs for salaries, rent, and productions for an entire year.

What do you receive as a philanthropist?

In addition to the experience of a performance that will be as charged as the title suggests, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Be a part of writing history as one of those who enabled Konträr’s future.
  • Participate in an exclusive conversation with the director and the ensemble after the performance.
  • Feel the satisfaction of having made a tangible difference for the future of performing arts in Sweden.

What is FIGHT about?

The performance reflects our contemporary society – the conflicts, oppositions, and dreams that something greater is possible. Making this performance a philanthropic event is no coincidence. We want it to embody the courage and vision required to change a structure that is currently not functioning.

Why now?

The time to act is short. We cannot continue as we are today – with two out of seven employees on salary and a future that is constantly uncertain. If nothing changes, we will be forced to close in May.

We do this because we believe in Konträr. We believe that there are people who see the value in what we do, who understand that performing arts are more than just entertainment – that it is a place where society is reflected, where conversations are born, and where lives are changed. Are you one of them? Then we hope to meet you in the auditorium at our philanthropic performance of FIGHT!

More about FIGHT

When was the last time you had an argument? Did you lose it? Were you too harsh? Did you feel foolish? Do you want to feel less alone and laugh at the misery?

FIGHT is a four-hour long quarrel between four actors. In FIGHT, all stages, qualities, and actions of an argument are portrayed. FIGHT is catharsis without peripeteia, an endless rumination on disagreements. FIGHT is a chamber play that revolves around the very core of drama – the conflict.

To enhance the experience, there will also be: a bluegrass band!

FIGHT was produced by PotatoPotato in spring 2021, and according to PotatoPotato’s method, the actors’ personal expressions, experiences, and perspectives have influenced both the content and form of the production.

The performance lasts 4 hours including a break, and the soundtrack is available to listen to here:
